Internal and external painting and decorating work undertaken in older properties and new builds

Internal painting and decorating

Woodwork may require loose paint being removed, filling and sanding prior to undercoating (priming first if bare wood), then gloss or satinwood, depending on the clients wishes. Woodwork may be stained if the client requires.

Wallpaper stripped, loose plaster removed, filling and sanding to a smooth finish. Walls painted or wallpaper hung. Some clients may require more than one type of paper hung in a room and possibly a border. Over the years I have hung may different styles, types of paper and my clients have always been pleased with the finished room.

Once decorating is finished I will always tidy up, clean and hoover to make sure that the clients house is left as found. I treat their house with the same respect I’d want shown in my own home. On entering houses I will always, unless advised otherwise, remove my shoes/boots to protect their carpets.

External paintwork

Preparation work is essential when dealing with exterior work so as to obtain the best finish and to ensure a long lasting finish. This may consist of replacing rotten wood, scraping away flaking or loose particles and sanding to a smooth finish. Wood is undercoated, primed if bare and one or two top coats applied as per the clients wishes after discussion. Wood is treated with preservative if the client prefers the natural look rather than paint.

Walls are made good prior to painting, ie loose rendering removed and reapplied. If extensive rendering is required I would recommend the client has the wall rendered by a professional builder prior to my painting. Two coats of exterior masonary paint is then applied.

Wooden fascias and soffits can often look as good as new once given the Chandler makeover.

Fencing and decking can be treated to a facelift with the clients choice of wood treatment.

When discussing the work to be carried out I will always ask the client whether they would prefer to supply the materials themselves or if not, I am happy to supply all materials after discussion with regard to colours etc.

New builds

Ensure walls are finished ready for decorating. Mist coat all bear walls, prime and undercoat all woodwork. Two topcoats to the walls and gloss or satinwood woodwork.
